The best place to find free WordPress.org themes is directly through the WordPress website. The site releases new themes every week. Each page is able to go into detail about each theme and even include a preview that viewers can visit live, if you click through to the theme homepage. Users simply have to find one that they want to use, download it, and then upload it to their own WordPress site through the dashboard, or via FTP.

Free theme for WordPress.

Here’s the link to the theme page on WordPress.org:

There are currently 1,549 themes to choose from here (at the time of this writing), and they are all free. Finding WordPress themes can seem like a needle in a haystack, and in many cases it is! Our best advice would be to find the appropriate theme that has the functionality to match your needs.

For basic blogging, free WordPress themes work great, but if you want to include more advanced features on your site such as e-commerce, or advanced media functionality then it’s better to find a premium paid theme that to try to add those features in later. The reason is that it’s much easier to use a single theme’s functionality then to try and add in extra plugins later to accomplish your needs. If what you desire is truly advanced, you may even want to hire a PHP programmer to develop the solution you are after.

Regardless of what you’re looking to do with WordPress, using free WordPress themes through wordpress.org is a great place to start!
